What are you guys planning on doing for memory? Was thinking about getting the 128GB SD but I don't think thats enough room honestly with the games, HB. plus saves. What do you guys recommend? And what about external drives? Will that work? Could would dock the Switch and hook an external to it?

Switch is a portable console with so much potential. Use only in dock mode it's a waste of money and joy. I guess you can put an external drive (if is not possible at this moment, It will be) but it makes no sense in this device, this is not PS4. If you go out and take it you want to carry the less things possible with you. A 128gb sd card gives you so much space, you can keep at least 15-20 games. Is that not good enough for you? Try another bigger, 200gb, 256gb, 400gb. Unless you wanna carry 300 games with you, then yes, buy an external hard drive (if is possible, with AC plug xD). The question is: are you gonna play all of them? and at the same time? Quick answer: no. ;)

Yeah you're right I was just looking at my options. Now that I think about it I should only have the games I feel like playing or at least my favorites, that makes more sense to me. Yeah I'll either go with a 128 or 200+ will see. Thanks for the input much appreciated

I have a 128gb one and I think it's ok. Also, you can trim the games to save more space, for example, a 2gb game trimmed results 786mb. I just start to fill mine with backups, but I think I can save about 20 - 25 (that depends, you know, Bayonetta's size isn't equal to Binding of Isaac).

In a few months maybe will upgrade to 256gb, but at this moment I think I'm good this way.

:)

I understand your dilemma here: which game do I keep? which one do I leave out? I want all of them with me on the go. Well I say that's a no go! at best you can have 3 hours playtime and like @mckee said you won't be playing them all. so make a choice of the genre: rpg, adventure, arcade, simulation, casual, etc.
Once the dock is modified we can then use hdd to enjoy them all from our couch.

SSDs are getting cheaper these days and you can actually get a 512GB SSD for about the same price as a 256GB micro SD card.

Sure the SSD is bigger than a micro SD card, but it's still fairly portable and can be moved around unlike a traditional HDD. You could just attach it to the back of your Switch ghetto-style with some double-sided tape or velcro!

question for you all. is it easy as just plugging in an external drive to the back of the dock? can i use a portable drive, or does it need to be one with an external power supply? where would i store the game files (xci and nsp)? would it be to the root of the external drive?

I plan on buying a 128 or 256GB card when I have the money. Eventually. I'm using a 64GB card but it's full so....
