Hi all, I was hoping someone could help me understand how to use cheats. I've been running atmosphere for a couple years, but never got into cheats or homebrew. Recently I installed checkpoint to manage save files on Xenoblade2 and noticed that checkpoint has the ability to add cheats.

So while in checkpoint, I press the right-joycon and added the cheats. I got a message that a folder was created and the cheat file was saved, but when I go into the game, the cheats don't appear to be active (I added them all for XC2).

I tried to figure out if there is some special way to activate them and the only thing I found was that some games you need to hold the "L" button down while launching it. I did do that and still the cheats are not applied into my game when I choose to continue.

Is there something else that I need to do in atmosphere? Do the cheats only apply if I select to play a new game instead of continuing my old game? Are the cheats available to all users on my swtich?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I would NOT use checkpoint . what I recommend is the latest version of
You must click 'Like' before you can see the hidden data contained here

I provided info based on your statement that you have been running atmosphere for a couple of years.
if you need a more noob friendly explanation let me know.

I have looked at Edizon and it seems much more difficult to use. Checkpoint appears to verify the game version within the application and you can see it when choosing the cheats.

My questions are more related to how to use the cheats within the game though.

Edizon is one of the best IF not THE best when i comes to cheats IMO

to answer your question. cheats are enabled when you boot the game. NOT while playing. for example take a look at this screen shot of shovel night.

see the gold and the hearts? both are separate cheats. However to enable or disable the cheat you can go to homebrew menu, open edizon and then enable disable the cheat.

to finish answering your question. in order to use cheats they need to be inside the folder i mentioned above . place the tittle ID folder inside you "atmosphere" folder in your SD card. open edizon and then enable the cheat. boot the game and........... enjoy

P.S why do i insist on Edizon? because checkpoint is a good save homebrew. but edizon is a great cheat enabler and its updated every single time a new firmware comes out. save time and head aches if you want cheats get edizon

Really do appreciate your time to respond and post the screenshot. For my setup, it's not so easy to get in and out of the SD card and it's difficult to figure out all of the game ID's to edit and put filed in folders. This is why I gravitate toward the all in one package, but if it doesn't work, it's not that great, lol.

I guess I just need to figure out what buttons to press and when to press them. Like during boot or from the title screen. Don't think from the game screen would work. I've looked at several cheat sites and just don't see how to make the magic happen.

Thanks again. If I get time, I'll try and figure out how to use Edizon and see if I can get things turned on.

Got Edizon to work on civ6. It does seem very easy to use. I just don't know why it was asking me to install files the first time around. I'll play with it some more in the next few days. Thanks again for the help and the recommendation!

I am glad you got Edizon to work. it really is the best for cheats.
if you dont want any trouble take your time to learn how to use it.
it will become easy and second nature in no time. it really is easy and fast to use

I used to have Checkpoint but since both Checkpoint and EdiZon don't appear to be regularly updated anymore I suggest using JKSV. You can get it from here https://github.com/J-D-K/JKSV it's more up to date then the aforementioned solutions and in addition to user save data it also supports device save data which some games such as Animal Crossing have.
