Current state with SXOS and Atmosphere?

I have been out of the scene for a bit with my nintendo switch. I had originally just gotten the dongle and went with SXOS to be quick and easy. I know it's old news but I saw that two people over at xecuter got arrested. I saw they had a firmware that game out after that, but wasn't sure how that was going to affect the long term release of newer SXOS. It seems like they don't cover the newest firmware just yet.

I have looked at and booted into atmosphere a couple of times. It's my understanding that it doesn't natively support XCI, which I have a lot of and prefer as I don't have to install to SD and basically have two copies on there before deleting the original .nsp file. What is the best way to handle XCI files on atmosphere if I have to go over there.

Also what is the current golden firmware to be on at the moment, and does that prevent me from using SXOS? Thanks in advance for any help.

Like you alluded to atmosphere doesn't and probably never will support XCIs as far as playing them. You can install them to your sd card from your computer using a few different programs like Tinfoil, but no external drive hard support and can't play XCIs.

As far as firmware there's no reason not to be on latest firmware so you can play latest games. Team xecuters site seems to be down (or the site changed and I didn't notice, because despite paying for it I no longer use it) so I'm not sure if it's supporting 11.0.1 or not yet. SXOS is one big question mark going forward. But if you insist on being on SX OS and can only get to 11.0 you would probably not miss out on much at present time maybe games that came out the last month only but going forward of course you would miss those games too.

There is a way to switch from atmosphere to SXOS and vice versa through the homebrew menu using 2 different apps, but I'm not sure if that would benefit you or not because you still couldn't switch to SXOS on a firmware it doesn't support.

Thanks for the info. I'm probably headed the way you are and just going to atmosphere permanently to be on the safe side. I saw there is an ReiNX option also but it looks like it hasn't yet got support for 11.0 either.

I'll verify I can get atmosphere working properly on my unit and than I'll upgrade to the newest firmware. I wasn't super partial for SXOS over anything else but buying it for the dongle a long time ago, and already having it bought, I just kept with it. I played around briefly with a way to load atmosphere on the side, like you said, so it could run the dreamcast emulator. I have been letting it sit for a bit and want to get back into. Thanks again.

SX OS site and Team Xecuter site have been down for several days. I'd say it's game over for SX OS support and updates.

I'd say it's premature to assume it's over. They have been down so many times and they always come back. But yeah it looks bleak for them overall.

Team X has been hit hard again. Following a pair of legal processes in Spain, a court has handed down injunctions compelling local ISPs to block three Team-Xecutor domains and two others offering pirated Nintendo games.
As far as I know there wont be any sx os updates anytime soon.

If I were you i would really start getting familiar with the best jailbreak Atmosphere.

To answer your querstion about XCI and atmosphere.
there is a homebrew app called "awoo installer" there is also another called "tinfoil" both will let you install all your XCI files and also their NSP updates into your SD card. totally safe and good to use. there is absolutely no need to "mount" xci files if you can install them on your sd card.

The point of it for me at least who likes to have a lot of games ready to play at any time is instead of buying a huge sd card that was ridiculous expensive at the time (still expensive but less so than 2 years ago) just use an external hdd and save money. So despite buying SX OS I saved money due to this. I since invested in a 512 gb sd card and now I have a gaming PC (didn't then) so I moved a lot of games over to PC and have plenty of space on the sd card. That's why I stopped using SX OS.

Thanks everyone for help and understanding on where things sit. I got atmosphere working on the newest version with sigpatches, and got my switch updated to 11.0.1 without burning the fuses. I'm honestly not forseeing a time when I would want to downgrade the firmware but hey no reason to burn fuses anyway.

One quick question, on SXOS there was a sort of preloader menu that I could make a NAND backup in. With atmosphere it just direct boots up properly. Is there a way to slow it down and get into the menu to make a NAND backup? I'm not sure if I'll ever use it but I'm always down for having a backup just in case.

I don't think it can be done through atmosphere or didn't used to be able to. I always did it by booting hekate instead.

Here is a tutorial to do it through hekate https://birbchirp.gitbook.io/switchguide/nand-backup/creating-a-nand-backup-with-hekate

Also I would recommend to go ahead and make one. I've had 2 incidents that having the backup saved my switch. In fact I need to make a new one I make one every few months because if you have to restore it will restore everything on your switch at that exact time. So if you make one and wait 2 years and have to restore it you'll lose all those saves (if you don't have them backed up with checkpoint at least) and any roms you may have added if you use Retroarch like me would be gone and any games you've installed all will be gone and you will go back to the firmware you were on that day. It just restores it to that exact period in time of when you make the backup. So the older it is the more hassle it is to get everything back to where it was.

Thanks, making a back up now. I have one back on 10.0.1 but going to let it run now. I was able to boot up hekate and it's doing the backup. I'll copy it off my SD card soon too just to have a backup of the backup. Then, I should be in good shape with 11.0.1 on atmosphere. Thanks for everything.

Well, Team Xecuter's and SX OS sites are back up and running. So there's hope we may have a firmware update soon.

Until Nintendo shut them down again, they are going after them pretty hard, and a load of Rom sites.

Glad to hear you were able to switch to atmosphere. I am an SX OS user. Can you provide me with a guide on how to switch to atmosphere? I have no idea on how to do this.

Any tutorial on how to switch to atmosphere from SX OS? Or install atmosphere from scratch?

I'm also curious about finding a recent guide or video on how to transfer over from SXOS to Atmosphere!

Thank you friend for the guide / video ... I appreciate it
