Can I have different firmwares on the same switch?

Hey guys!
I am confused about a couple of things (I wish it was just a couple, ha!).
I currently have my switch running on atmosphere with the firmware 10.0.2|AMS 0.12.0|S.
When I first got the switch and started reading about how to hack it and atmosphere I was under the impression that atmosphere would run directly from the SD and not from the switch internal storage, thus making it completely separated from the switch internal memory.
Now I was wondering, if I were to reboot my switch without atmosphere and update the internal firmware, would this affect my 10.0.2|AMS 0.12.0|S firmware installation on the SD when I try to reboot into atmosphere next time?
Long story short I'm considering buying Monster Hunter Rise in physical copy to play online with other friends and I was wondering if I could just do that and still play all my games on the SD with atmosphere without updating my SD firmware (assuming that the firmware on the SD is completely separated from what's inside the switch itself).
Am I making any sense? is this possible at all or once I upgrade my firmware on the switch I'll have to upgrade the SD and atmosphere as well?

yes you can have sysFirmware and EmuNAND in diff firmwares.
I dont see a reason why to do it but whatever floats your boat.

this is what you have 10.0.2|AMS 0.12.0|S (what this means is that you are running CFW on your SYSnand) the momment you connect to the internet to update you will get banned from the big N. I strongly advise you not to connect your switch to the internet. also resetting the switch to factory will NOT keep you safe from a ban. the only way is to restore your unique NAND backup

If you followed any of my hacking guides, you can do a nandrestore to make your switch virgin again, keep it clean. then create an EMUnand that will run CFW from your SD card.

I'll do some research for your hacking guides then. (a friend of mine hacked my switch for me when i first got it so I have to study a little bit now).

You said that if I update my switch now without doing anything i'll get banned... I did update my switch at some point from 9.2.0 to 10.0.2... is it possible that I'm already banned and not know it? is there any way to find out (without getting banned in the process)

I will straight up answer your question. the answer is NO. you cannot play online with your friends. WHY you ask. because your sysnand is dirty with homebrew and the momment you connect to the internet the big N will have a field day banning to the depths of hell.

what can you do ? when your friend hacked your switch, did he make a NANDbackup? (no you cannot use someone elses nand)
if you dont have a copy you cant revert back to virgin again and you are screwed with dirty sysnand.


its totally possible to update your switch OFFLINE. so you might NOT be banned.

I think I have my nand backed up somewhere for I remember my friend being very serious about backing up my switch before hacking it. I just need to figure out which one it is (got everything saved in a folder on my mac).
One more question if you can bare with me one last time:
Say I do everything the right way: restore my switch with the original Nand, create the EmuNand to run all the game I currently have on my SD, AND play mhr online with my friends (which I obviously need to buy from Gamestop or on the Nintendo Store)... What happens to all my savegames? And (assuming I can back them up somehow) can I use my current savegames online (I salready tarted playing mhr that African posted as a nsp on this forum) or would that get me banned as well?

I wish. that friend barely plays anymore and doesn't like mh... And I have a community of friends met on mhw on xbox which i'd like to keep playing with if possible.

Someone may need to correct me on this, but... There's a homebrew app called checkpoint if I'm not mistaken that will allow you to backup your saves which I'm assuming will transfer to your SD and from there you can save on your pc. Once your switch has been restored back to your clean Sysnand and you have created an emunand on the sd card you should be able to put checkpoint back on again (on emunand) and restore your saves. Don't quote me on this as I have never used checkpoint but I think the theory is right.
As for using them online once your sysnand is clean, Im sure I don't know. I wouldn't though.
