Simple as that. I've been downloading some FPKGs from the corresponding section and some of the downloads come with an additional 'patch' pkg file which seems to be the latest game update. From what I could gather game updates are only possible if you have the original disc but I might be wrong since most of the time those patch files come together with the main game pkg file.

Will I always need the original disc if I want to install an update to a fake PKG game, or can I install the update (patch file) pkg that comes along just after installing the base game?

FPKGs can be updated using fake package updates. They must have the same CUSA

Sometimes you might have to "remarry" an update to the base game that is provided. This will simply compare the files in the update and the base game, and recompile the update FPKG for the base game. The CUSA of course has to match, too.

Usually this is necessary when you have a game that included the update but the update won't install and gives you a error message when it is almost done. Unfortunately barely any of the people who put such things online have the idea to mention that the update has to be remarried... Not even a single word included in most uploads. Sadly.

Just had such a case with Far Cry 5 update 1.01. It wouldn't install. However the update file came with a text file that said it had to be remarried to the base game. After I did that it just worked absolutely fine.
