A couple months ago Linux was released on 4.55 while there have been a couple tutorials floating around the internet here's mine that contain some key details that I missed, All credit goes to PSXITA Team for this tutorial.
Supported Models: All PS4 models except PS4 Pro

1st. Get a FAT32 Formatted Flash Drive over 32GB and these files here,
Download for fw 4.55 - Download for fw 4.05.
  • The bzImage (kernel): Download md5: 85d3a15a22380591f5519122f436c7ba
  • The initramfs: Download md5: a3e4d2e6a15fea750ed4e8cccacfa112
  • The psxitarch.tar.xz file (the distro): Download md5: 26bae18ccc2e2173109a7fd954657c08

2. Put all 3 files onto the drive for the initramfs file do not try to open it with winrar you just transfer it raw.

3. Go to your PS4 and send the payload, NOTE: I didn't know this but it may take about 1-3 mins for it to start reading so if your screen does not go black and a rescue shell screen does not appear after 1-3 mins your console may not be supported check the list above to see what consoles are.

4. On the rescueshell screen type: install-psxitarch.sh

5. The distro will now install takes about 30 mins you'll see a list of files copying after the installation you'll be greeted with either a login screen or a screen that says rescueshell again if you get this type the following: exec install-psx it arch.sh or exec start-psxitarch.sh

6. Username: psxita password: changeit

7. Enjoy!

so doesnt the psxitarch file need extracting? it says in the guide dont extract initramfs. but doesnt mention the other lol

I can't get the black screen to load up, thought maybe its usb, I tried 2 different types after formatting to fat 32. I don't have a ps4 pro. Which other consoles aren't supported?

@ jkathanan
Make sure your USB is 3.0, also you can only install PSXITA V2 with the non 3GB VRAM Loader. I was having the same problem but just kept trying to load it then it worked, + i was doing on a pro.
