My joy cons have drift really bad. I've taken them apart and cleaned them. I've replaced the joy sticks with new, not Nintendo, joy sticks. TOTK has finished them off. I'm poor and can't afford $80.00 for an official set. What are peoples experience with generic joy cons?

I gave up on the official Joy Con's years ago, after 3 failed drifters, I moved onto Hori Split Pad Pro, which are great, BUT...... don't have stuff like rumble or Ambio support, so if that bothers you, don't bother with them, but as far as controllers go, they are great.
I also have the NexiGo Switch controller-1125, which is an all in one holder and controller for the Switch and OLED, also great, has programmable buttons on the back, and rumble, but does not have Ambio support. And finally I have a Official Switch Pad Pro, which is my go to for when I play using either my TV, or Grip for the Switch Pad.

Rumble is pretty important to me. I never use Ambio though. I will give you suggestions a look at. Thank You.

My Joy-Con suffered from the notorious ghost drifting issue as well after some time of barely being used, which is kind of funny and at the same time, telling how weak the Joy-Con's hardware is. I never bothered replacing mine with a new one and just stuck with third-party controllers, like 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ and SN30 Pro 2.
